Neo seemed to wonder why the cat did not call his parents to report the poorly behaved sleepover friends.

Another easy fun read

Easy for a new reader to read, and many words for them to sound out as well. It was also a cute story.

After a fun day at the beach, Pete the Cat suggests that his friends come over to his house for a sleepover, in order to continue the good times. What he doesn't expect is that his restless companions will keep him up, when he's just trying to get some zzzzs. Fortunately, Pete thinks to break out a book, and an impromptu story-time sends everyone off to the land of nod, there to dream of another day of fun in the sun...

Pete the Cat and the Bedtime Blues is only the second title I have read from this series that wasn't written by the original author/songwriter, Eric Litwin. Like Pete the Cat and His Magic Sunglasses (the first non-Litwin title I read), I thought the narrative here was a little lacking. There's none of the sing-song quality of the earlier books, despite the repetitive structure of the tale, and even the positive message about keeping cool in the face of difficulties, which did find its way into the sunglasses book, is largely absent here. I'll probably be reading more of these later Pete the Cat books for a project I'm doing at work, but overall, I have to say that this one was a bit of a disappointment.

I've found this series to be very mediocre now that James and Kimberley are doing the books together. What made the first three books so great was that they came with a song that kids would catch and sing over and over and over again. They were repeatable stories, easy to memorize and kids love that!

I haven't been impressed with a Pete picture book since Groovy Buttons. I still enjoy the Easy Readers, however.

Oh well, nothing lasts forever.

After a long day at the beach, Pete invites his friends to his place for a sleep over. This cool cat needs his rest, but his friends just don't seem sleepy. It takes Pete reading a bedtime story about his adventures to his friends before they are all ready to call it a night and go to sleep.

Loved it!
*Whispers Quietly* and as an adult, I am going to remember to have this be the last book of the night we read before bedtime. ;)

Pete the Cat and his friends spend time enjoying surfing and having fun. So they decide to have a sleep over. Most of all, illustrations caught my eye when reviewing this book. The illustrations are drawn as if children drew them. Rough coloring and diverse colors create the mood of children's drawings in art class. Mostly yellow and blue colors of backgrounds provide clues of night and day as well as quiet and excitement. Pertaining to the solutions to let his friends fall asleep, I thought about two effects. First, the solution implies that reading bedtime stories is a common way to make your child falls asleep. Bedtime reading is well-known strategy to create relaxed circumstances to go to bed. At the same time, this reading practice encourages children's literacy development. Secondly, reading a book in a bed could deliver the message that reading books are not fun but are for sleep. I may exaggerate the potential risks of misinterpretations on reading books, but I believe that some children may think the way I thought when I was a child. Haha…

My Review: We are big Pete the Cat fans and of course had to get this one. For some reason I really had a hard time finding Pete's jazzy personality in this one and couldn't get into the rhythm of the story like usual. With that said this is a fun book, especially as kids get a little older and start having sleepovers. What is the best way to settle down to a good night's sleep? Pete seems to have the answer.

When reading this book I imagined myself sitting in front of students telling the story of Pete and his friends during story time. I feel that this story was a good example of friendship and problem solving. Pete and his friends have fun together because everyone treats each other nicely. Even with such good friends, they can be troublesome.
I could use this story of Pete and his friends in a classroom by reading it to the whole class and presenting the message of friendship and problem solving. I could also use it to read to a specific group of students who do not seem to be getting along. This book would be appropriate for kindergarten to second grade.

This book was another fun adventure with Pete the Cat and his groovy friends. They spent the whole day at the beach and were having so much fun that they didn't want it to end, so they decided to have a sleepover at Pete's house. I thought that the illustrations were fun and that they were full of bright colors. I think that the story is a good one for younger kids that are in kindergarten or maybe first grade. I don't know if I would read it to a classroom full of 3rd or 4th graders because it may lack the depth that they require in a book. I enjoyed the rhyming. I also really liked how the letters got bigger and the color of the letters changes to create more of an emphasis on the phrases that needed it. I really enjoy the Pete the Cat series. I think this is one of the best series for children. In this one, I think its a silly and exciting read for the kids. It keeps them wondering what Pete is going to go through next and what he's going to do to get to sleep. I enjoy the illustrations also, they show the kids what's happening in the plot and are also children friendly. The book also helps children to learn how to solve a problem.

Pete, the cat, and his friends spend the whole day hanging out at the beach. When they were done surfing Pete suggested a sleepover. Though he could not get any sleep. All of his friends wanted to eat, play drums or clap. This gave him the Bedtime Blues. So he decided to read them a story. the group eventually settled down and fell right asleep.
A cute children's book about how important bedtime is and the benefits it brings for the next day coming.

Pete the Cat and his groovy companions make kids happy (though with the childlike illustrations and the difficult-but-there rhythm it may be hard for parents to understand why). This particular adventure will make parents happy because the hero wants to go to sleep at bedtime, and the toads and alligators and whatnot who don't want to go to sleep at bedtime are regarded as ungroovy.
Learn to groove well, kids. Go to sleep at bedtime like Pete the Cat.

Pete the Cat is back, and this time, he finds out how difficult it is sometimes to get to sleep!

Not that Pete would ordinarily have a problem sleeping but -- he is having a sleepover and his friends want to do anything -- but sleep|!

Parents and caregivers, like myself, will appreciate the irony here!

I also loved how Pete, finally got his three friends, to finally "get some zzzzz's!"

Pete the Cat is one one cool kitty!

The girls simply loved the story; I did too!

The colors are too saturated and the illustrations do not gorge your eyes upon seeing. It can actually tire you or make your head hurt: too much yellow and red. Nevertheless, the animals are expressive and the drawings serve its purpose, I suppose. Pete is cute and really the best drawn character. The story did not do the trick for me, which implies that I'll drop any of the other books of the series.

We have been reading Pete the Car since my son was in Pre-k (he's now 10) we still love reading Pete the cat! He's a cool cat that teaches good behavior, my kids like repeating some of the things Pete says and the author makes you feel included while reading. Our favorite is the one about Pete's Shoes!
